This is the best book on SQL Server I have seen. Perhaps this deserves a disclaimer, I am an experienced programmer. Then again, perhaps not. The book covers all aspects of Database programming from design to SQL coding that a software developer might need. For a more thorough treatment of CLR functions I would recommend Dejan Sunderic's text. Everything else is here.A word about the format. (I love it) Even numbered pages contain theoretical/descriptive expositions of various topics. On the facing odd-number pages the book has well designed examples illustrating the material on the even pages.
Love this book. It has lots of examples and it explains things very well. I use this in addition to my textbook for class. This is more the "learn how to code SQL". It's not very in-depth for the database side, but that's not what this book is about. I love this book, and find it a great reference book. It has almost everything I need. Easy to find things and did I mention all the examples? Yeah, that part is a total win.It doesn't use the adventureworks database, but I didn't find that a problem. In other words, I would have preferred adventureworks, but I'm certainly not taking off any stars because they use their own (which they show you how to download and install).
I am about to start my career as an SQL backend Programmer and this book is a great go-to-guide for any problems i run in to. Originally bought it for my online database programming class, now I am definitily keeping it for future use.
Solid..a bit too simple. I would suggest this more of a reference book. I wouldn't start learning with this one. Still a solid book to have around though.
Had to go through the SQL server last updates and as all books from Murach this is a fast learning experience to the point and knowledgable

This was a textbook for a database management class I took. Good simple problems and overviews. Good reference for TSQL if you're a beginner or need to refresh your memory.
